Connection. Recovery In Focus is about connection and using photographs to tell stories. Our unique therapeutic photography project works with people in early recovery from addiction to drink and drugs. Looking through the lens of a camera gives a new and creative way to tell stories of addiction and recovery.
Jill Whittingham, our Therapeutic Lead, facilitates this powerful photography project. With a mix of workshop sessions and on-location shoots across North Wales, and the North West, participants learn photography skills alongside tools to help move into long term, stable recovery.
The project uses photography as a means of self expression to communicate with others their experiences and supports participants in developing a secure base for their healthy recovery from addiction. These include life skills such as building self esteem, improving confidence, developing a hobby and sharing experiences.
No experience is needed and all photos are shot and edited using phone cameras.
Recovery In Focus began in 2019 and has grown into a thriving community of its own. Participants stay connected to the project and each other by attending Recovery In Focus gatherings, gallery events and by showcasing their new skills on our ever-growing Facebook group ‘Collage’, exclusive to participants of the project.
